How My Grandchildren Saved Christmas (And Myself)

My grandchildren would save my life. Taught to dial 9-1-1 during an emergency, and to do it without panicking.  Became a well learned lesson.  While my grandson Toby put our dog in the kennel.  My grand daughter called 9-1-1. When I say my super hero's don't wear capes but book bags I am not pretending.

I was sent to Pruitt first then several months later to Walton's Way. I worked every hour of the intense therapy to recovery.  I was I went through the intensive physical therapy. And was thrilled to be going home for the first time in nearly a year!  I finished the program a little early, something that added to my joy!
I think had more to do with the excitement of going home than just my will to finish the program early, but to get home to my family.

But things never seem to happen as planned or hoped.  I arrived at home to a celebration.  Then the worst thing happened,  I fell backward flat on my back.  I was transported to Doctor's Hospital. I was there again for another couple of weeks.  I was taken to Keysville for rehab again.  This time staying until March 2024. I have been here in Lakes Crossing since January of 2025.  And I am ready to go home! What was intended to be a hospital stay of 3 days but up ended up being two years.

So two years of  time are holidays, church, bible school, my grand daughters dance recitals, my grandsons gymnastics, meals out, family get to gatherings, and collage graduations are lost.

I am now 60 years old and free leave when I can find a home.
I have tried pubic housing, but the wait is 2 years to 5 years. And that is in Columbia, County, Georgia. In Augusta, the wait is up to five years, just to get on the waiting lists!  And no promise that one will open up.  I am stuck here in a nursing home until I find a cheap piece of land to build on.

The cost of the nursing home, leaves me with coins to buy the items I need like body wash and toothpaste. And nothing left to buy clothing or even new personable items.

It just seems buying a Granny Flat for one person, makes better sense.  Some A-frames begin at $ 12,000 and Granny Flats begin around $ 20,000. I am looking into even Yurts to just get out of here!  So, after several fundraising tries I am going a different route.  I am now BEGGING for help. I am here until I find an affordable Granny Flat  or A-frame that will  suit  my new special needs. Thank you.
